Abstract
Strontium hexaβaluminate phosphors activated with Eu^3+^ and Sm^3+^ ions were produced at low temperatures (500 Β°C) by the combustion of corresponding metal nitrateβurea mixtures over a period of 5 min. Powder Xβray diffraction characterization and photoluminescence studies of these samples were carried out. It was found that coβdoping of Sm^3+^ ions helps in the partial reduction of Eu^3+^ ions to Eu^2+^ ions in SrAl~12~O~19~. (Β© 2006 WILEYβVCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
