✦ Synopsis

We have studied the preferential conforniations of a-formyl thiophenes and furans by NMR examining the stereospecific coupling values. We observed changes in the aldehydic conformation with respect to the nature of the ortho substituents. The preferential conformation of these heterocyclic aldehydes is interpreted by the existence of three interaction factors.
