favor, for isolation of total glyeogen from animal tissues, the modification of Good et al. (1) of Pfluger's method (2), and assay the precipitate with the anthrone reagent (3). This combination of procedures yielded low and unreproducible results when applied to 0.1 mg of glycogen, to individual mosquitoes, or to 10 mg of liver. Therefore, each step of these procedures was reinvestigated.

By taking into consideration factors affecting the precipit.ability of aqueous glycogen solutions by ethanol, quantitative isolation of as little as 1 pg of glycogen from animal tissue was achieved.

A specific enzyme method is described for the routine estimation of starch in small quantities (10-30 mg) of dried leaf tissue. A fl-glucanase-free preparation of amyloghicosidase is employed to hydrolyse starch to glucose; this is subsequently estimated by the glucose oxidase technique. The method

One of the requirements for the use of D-triiodothyronine as a serum cholesterollowering agent is that it be essentially free of its optical isomer, L-triiodothyronine. A method for estimating small amounts of L-triiodothyronine in D-triiodothyronine is described. After removing any free triiodothyr
