✦ Synopsis


The extinction coefficient and radiative lifetime of the transient free radical p-aminophenylthiyl, which exhibits laser oscillation, have been estimated based on the observation of laser bleaching at one wavelength and the appearance of a transient absorption at another wavelength. It is found that the molar (decadic) extinction coefticient at the 560 nm absorption peak is (1.0-1.7) x lo4 P/mol cm (in diethyl ether) and the radiative lifetime of the first doublet excited state is 40 ns, within a factor of three.
