✦ Synopsis

Abstract

A human signet ring gastric carcinoma cell line TSGH9201 was established in vitro. The cells grew in vitro as a monolayer with polygonal morphology and had a population doubling time of 34 hours. The cells secreted tumor markers CEA and CA 125. They were, however, not tumorigenic in athymic nude mice. Karyotypic analysis demonstrated a near tetraploidy with a modal chromosome number of 98. Northern blotting and immunocytochemical analysis revealed the expression of both transforming growth factor Ξ± and high levels of epidermal growth factor receptor. Cell growth was inhibited by the epidermal growth factor in vitro. The cell line may be a useful tool to study autocrine growth regulation through the epidermal growth factor receptor. Epidermal growth factor (EGF) induced the disruption and scattering of colonies of TMK-1, a cell line derived from a human gastric carcinoma. ## Abstract The effects of EGF and TGF‐β1 on the proliferation of 2 ovarian carcinoma cell lines (IGROV1 and OVCCR1) were evaluated. The cell lines were adapted to grow in a restricted serum (0.5%) medium. EGF was required for proliferation of both ovarian cell lines. Low doses of TGF‐β1 inhibited

We have previously observed that a human adrenal carcinoma cell line (SW-13) produces autocrine growth factors that enhance the ability of these cells to clone in soft agar. We now show that a basic FGF-like protein is found in SW-13 lysates and stimulates SW-I3 colony growth. Basic FGF (bFGF) was i
