X-irradiation of sin@ crystals of triphcnylgcrmane yields the triphenylgcrmyl radical (CgHs)&e. The 73Ge hypcrfine coupling, parameters show that, as expected, the radical is non-planar and sirnilsr to (Ci,H5)3$ and (CbHs)3PT, Quadrupole'coupling effects were not observed showing that, as expected, the qundrupole coupling constant is small. On stnndinp, a furthrr unidcntificd germaniumcentered rndical slowly appears whose ESR parameters arc also given.
