✦ Synopsis

ES12 spectra observed at 120 Kin ririadialcd solid solutions of PFs in neopentane and AsFs in SF6 are asclibcd to the radical ions PF< and AsFz in which the unpaired electron interacts strongIF with the central nucleus nnd with four equivalent 191z nuclei. Hyperfine interaction with the filth 19F nucleus WIS not resolvable in either cat. The spectra were quite distinct from Those of rhe remfluorides IT4 2nd AsFJ, thus eliminating the possibility that they were due to tctrafluoride radicals undergoing rapid intramolecular 19t: exchange.

Radicals produced by reaction of e;ls with pyridine, pyrazine, and pyrazincdicarboxylic acid have been studied by elcctrwr spin resonance using the in situ radiolysis steady-state ESR technique. The radical anions initially produced have been found to undergo rapid protonation on nitrogen to form py
