ESR spectra of NaO2, KOz, RbO2, and CsOz in rare gas matrices are consistent with an ionic hi+02 model of isoscefes symmetry, in accord with recent vibrational spectra. However, the ESR for Cs02 also Shows eVidt?flCe for an inversion of the uppermost occupied molecular orbit& which can be attributed to a slight covalent mixing of the oxygen valence orbitals with the inner-sheU p-orbitais of the metal.
