Abstract
This paper describes a technique for synthesizing an equivalent circuit for a broadband antenna. A method is proposed for generating a rational function approximation with real coefficients in order to model the input impedance of the antenna in the frequency domain. An algorithm is then developed to find the bestβfit positiveβreal rational function that is realizable by passive circuits. The technique is applied to a planar UWB antenna from 3 to 10 GHz. The results show that a modeling error of 0.59% can be achieved. The Brune's theorem is used to synthesize an equivalent circuit of the antenna. Β© 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
