โœฆ Synopsis

Lewis acids such as and were supported on silica gel, FeCl 3 ZnCl 2 alumina, zirconia and titania by co-grinding with anhydrous Lewis acids in appropriate proportions in an agate mortar. The catalysts have good shelf life and reusability. Synthesis of diphenylmethanes with these catalysts was studied ; silica gel was the best support.

## Abstract A novel and green approach has been described for the synthesis of 2,3โ€dihydroโ€1__H__โ€1,5โ€benzodiazepines from __o__โ€phenylenediamines and ketones using cerium(III) chloride/sodium iodide supported on silica gel under mild and heterogeneous conditions. The reactions are carried out at r
