A short review is given on the potent and organ-specific carcinogenic effects of N-nitroso compounds. Like many other chemical carcinogens, nitrosamino compounds require activation in vivo via enzymatic alpha-hydroxylation to form alkylating agents as ultimate carcinogens. Since no epidemiological d
