β¦ Synopsis
j a p a n The entire nucleotide sequence of mitochondrial DNA of MS/Ae mice was determined. It consists of 16,300 bases, with 15 sites being different from the known 16,295 base sequence of mitochondrial DNA derived from L cells of C3H mice (accession no. V0071 1). The MS/Ae strain is a derivative of CDl mice; these 15 sites in mitochondrial DNA from CD-1 mice were also determined. N o difference was found, strongly suggesting that mitochon-dria of MS/Ae and CD-1 mice have the same DNA sequence and indicating that the high sensitivity of MS/Ae mice to mutagens compared to C D l mice is not dependent on genes coded by mitochondrial DNA.
