✦ Synopsis
RuGd 2Àx Ce x Sr 2 Cu 2 O 10Àd (Ru-1222) and RuSr 2 GdCu 2 O 8Àd (Ru-1212) are systems in which bulk superconductivity (SC) in the CuO 2 planes (below T C = 32-50 K) and weak-ferromagnetism in the Ru sublattice, coexist. SC can be totally suppressed by a small variation of the oxygen concentration, or by appropriate doping. Magnetic studies indicate that in both systems, the SC samples have lower magnetic transitions but higher coercive fields than the corresponding non-SC materials. This phenomenon can be explained by assuming the existence of the spontaneous vortex phase in the SC regions.
