Abstract

Investigations are made of the absorption spectra — d‐d transitions — of a series of A~3~CrCl~6~ double salts, where A = Li, Na, K, Rb, and Cs. Using Tanabe and Sugano's energy matrices for d^3^ configuration in O~h~ point group an assignment of the bands is made. An influence of the next alkali cation on the Racah parameter B is observed and qualitatively explained by introducing a new parameter μ depending on both the charge and the radius of cations.

A technique was developed and a cell was designed for registering electronic absorption spectra of dilute nickel and chromium chloride solutions in molten alkali chlorides as a function of their redox potential. Changes in the spectra were studied in detail in them melts. Equations were derived conn
