β¦ Synopsis
Excitation of Tb3+ and Eu3+in DSlSO with 487 mp, which corresponds to the 'I-'6 + 'Da transition of T%j', is accompanied by a reduction in the flt~orerccnce efficiency of Tb3+ as [Eu3'] increases and by thz appearance of a wx:nk emission from Eu3+. An nvcrage rntc constant for both the fluorescence quenching of Tb3' and the energy transfer from Tb3+ to Eu3+ with subsequeni emission from the latter, was found to be (2.2 ? 0.4) X lo3 M-' set-'.

Energy transfer between Ce3+ and Tb3+ in rare earth pentaphosphates was studied versus Ce3+ concentration and temperature. Within this chain-type structure the energy diffusion is very sensitive to atomic substitution and -this process is operating via the Ln-0-P-0-Ln links. The energy transfer effi
