✦ Synopsis

Electron spin resonance and phosphorescence of phosphorescent triplet states of quinoline, isoquinoline and their protonated cations were studied in methanol:water (4:l by volume) and in stretched poly(viny1 alcohol) films at 77 K. The zero-field splitting parameter 101 of isoquinoline decreases on protonation, the reverse of what is expected from an optically detected magnetic resonance study by Leinwand et aE.

Transient ESR spectra have been observed for the lowest triplet states of naphthalene, quinoline (QN), quinolinium (QNH+), isoquinoline (iso-QN) and isoquinolinium (iso-QNH+) in ethanol at 77 K using a time-resolved ESR technique. With the aid of computer simulations, it is concluded that, following

The three spin-lattice relaxation rates for the triplet state of ncridine in zerc-field have been determined in a biphenyl host from 1.7-3.2 K. The mean relaxation rate for the triplet state of phcnanthrene was determined in a biphenyl host from 1.3-13 K Two conclusions of a more general nature emer
