โœฆ Synopsis

Using a stretched polyvinyl alcohol film as a host, electron spin resonance (ESR) of the phosphorescent triplet statesof p-phenylphenol and p-phenylphenolate ion has been studied by changing the pH of the medium as an exampIe OF the appIication of ESR to an aad-base equilibrium. In assgning ESR spectra of aromatic acid and conjugated base. the present method is demonstrated to be most convenient and useful.

By applying a microwave magnetic field parallel to an esternsl magneric field, ESR of naphthalene, quinosaline, quinoline and isoquinotine in their phosphorescent triplet states has been studied at 77 K. The proton hyperfiie structures in the &II = ?2 transitions were distinctly resolved, especially
