The primary neutral radicals in y-irradiated liquid methanol at 194°K have been spin trapped with phenyl-t-butyl nitrone. The principal primary radicals are CH20H and CH30. In contrast to earlier work, these radicals are formed with an initial ratio of CHzCH/CHaO J 1.5 which agrees with gas phase mass spectrometric results.
