✦ Synopsis


O n the surface of iron deposited from a ferrous sulphate solution under potentiostatic conditions tetragonal and trigonal growth pyramids are formed . At low overvoltages the tetragonal pyramids, and at high overvoltages the trigonal pyramids, prevail . The respective tangents of the angles between the sides and the bases of the pyramids are proportional to the overvoltage . The distances of the growth steps at the sides of the tetragonal pyramids are inversely proportional to the overvoltage . The height of the growth steps is nearly equal to the height of the unit cell, taking into account the most probable texture of the iron deposit . On the assumption that the pyramids grow at screw dislocations, the specific edge energy of the growth steps is calculated.
