โœฆ Synopsis

A family of 12 (7 saturated and 5 unsaturated) long chain fatty acid N-(2-hydroxyethyl)amides has been investigated by electron ionization (EI) and positive-ion chemical ionization (PICI) mass spectrometry. This paper presents the mass spectra and structures of the main ions obtained by EI and PICI (using methane as reactant gas). The discussion of the fragmentation pattern is made in correlation with the methyl branch position in aliphatic compounds and the double bond position in monounsaturated compounds. A quantitative correlation of the ratio [M -H 2 O + H] + /[M -H 2 O -H] + , in the PICI mass spectra, with the number of double bonds, C atoms, and aliphatic H atoms is made.

Positive-ion chemical ionization mass spectra for 48 phenols were measured using methane as the reagent gas in order to clarify their characteristics. The positive electron impact (EI) and isobutane chemical ionization (CI) mass spectra of six nitramine nitrates were studied with the aid of some accurate mass measurements. Oligomeric ions formed from aluminium 2,2',2"-Ntriltriethoxide (alumatrane) are present in electron impact (EI) ionization, chemical ionization (CI), direct-exposure probe chemical ionization (DCI) and liquid secondary ion (LSI) mass spectra. These oligomeric ions are most pronounced in the LSI mass
