✦ Synopsis
We have recently reported the syntheses of isomeric chloromethylstyrenes (la, b, c), ' 4-(chloro-2-ethyl) styrene (2)' and4-(chloro-3-propyl) styrene (3).' I I CH,CH,CI CH,CHzCHzCI la ortho 1 b meta

Polymerizations or co-polymerizations of these monomers give polymer supports in catalysis and in synthetic organic chemistry? The study of the thermal stability of these macromolecules requires one to know the mass spectra of the starting monomers which are released with many others volatile compound^.^*^^^-^ These compounds were characterized by GC/MS. In spite of extensive literature data about chloromethylstyrenes,8 no mass spectra were described except for the commercial product ld, a mixture of meta and pnrn isomers.'
The electron impact mass spectra of these five chloroalkylated styrenes are reported in Table 1.
