✦ Synopsis

Six structurally related crown ethers have been studied by electron impact @I) mass spectrometry. From accurate mass measurements, metastabel ion and mass-analyzed ion kinetic energy (MIKE) spectra, plausible fragmentation pathways were deduced. All compounds showed very abundant molecular ions and some amount of the doubly charged molecular ions. The primary fragmentations always involved the catechol moiety and consequent loss of oxirane although the fragment(ation)s also showed a clear dependence on the functionalities X in one of the crown ether segments, -OCH2XCHzO-(compoundfi: l/-CHz-, 2/-C=C-, 3 / t r a n s P H = CH-, 4 / c i s P H = CH-, 5/-HC+H-, and 6/-C€12CHr).

The 70 eV electron ionization mass spectra of uracil-fused tetrathiafulvalenes have been studied by accurate mass measurement, metastable ion analysis and collision-induced dissociation. The isomeric 2, 3-, 5, 6-and 8-quinolinylphthalimides give rise to different electron impact ionization mass spectra, which permit easy distinction. The specific fragmentation processes are rationalized in terms of proximity effects and stabilization of cyclic ion structures. Collision-induced disso

Stereoisomeric cisand trans-1-butyl-3-dimethylaminocyclohexanols have been previously reported to exhibit different electron impact (EI) mass spectra. The m/z 100 ion is obtained only from the cis-isomer. The [ C 6 H 14 N ] results of a collision-induced dissociation study are inconsistent with the
