Reduction of tert.-, sec.-and prim.-isonitriles with tributylstanne affords in good yieids, but at progressively higher temperatures, the corresponding hydrocarbons. Sec.-thiocyanates and selenocyanates are also smoothly reduced but via the isonitriles. All reactions are radical in character. alcohol
