Mono-and bimetallic catalysts (Au, Pt, Pd and Rh) in form of supported particles or colloidal dispersions were tested in the aerobic oxidation of d-glucose to d-gluconic acid in water solution under mild conditions. Whereas the activity of single metals under acidic conditions was weak in the case o

β¦ Synopsis
A catalyst was made by entrapping glucose oxidase in a polymeric film deposited on an electrode surface. Its efficiency was studied by measuring the transformation of glucose by oxygen into gluconic acid. A numerical model was elaborated and validated with respect to experimental data. The electrochemical step affected the enzymatic catalysis in two ways: the reactant oxygen was regenerated, and the product, hydrogen peroxide which is a glucose oxidase inhibitor, was consumed. By monitoring these two concentrations, the electrochemical assistance significantly enhanced catalyst efficiency.
