✦ Synopsis

Electrochemical stud&s of hydrogen peroxide were carried out at a platinum disc electrode under q&cent and steady state conditions, in the pH range of 2-12.3 in an universal buffer medium. At all pH values, a mixed cathodic-anodic wave was obtained. the anodic have being due to oxidation of peroxide to oxygen. At pH values bebw 6, one more cathodic wave in addition to the mixed wave was obtained. The cathodic part of the mixed wave was due to the reduction of oxygen (found by the catalytic decomposition of peroxide) to hydrogen peroxide. The additionaf cathodic wave was, however, due to the reduction of the undccomposed peroxide to waltr. At pH values below six, the cathodic part of the mixed wave decreased, with the equivalent rise in the additional cathodic wave. Electrode kinetic-parameters were evaluated employing chronoamperometry. chronopotentiometry and rotating disc electrode voltammetry.

The oxidation of iodide at a rotaling platinum disk electrode in methanol has been studied. At low concentrations only one oxidation wave is seen, but at higher concentrations two steps are discerned. This is in accordance with the theory, assuming that the equilibrium between iodide, ttiiodide and
