## Abstract The co‐complexed Ba^2+^ cation in the hetero‐dinuclear complex 1 stabilizes the carbon‐nickel bond that is formed in the reductive coupling of benzyl chloride and 1; the β€œPhCH~2~ο£ΏNi^II^/Ba^2+^” intermediate reacts with CO~2~ or acetic anhydride.
