Mottdchottky plots were measured on single crystal Nb-doped Ti02 in aqueous bu%er solutions and KC1 electrolytes of concentration between I M and 10e4 M KCI. The inlluence of surface pretreatment, nature of the dopant and solution conductivity on the Mott-Schottky plots was examined. The surface pre

-Electrochemical studies were conducted on Z.-ZIG, electrodes as part of the program iu this laboratory on the development of pH probes for use in high temperature/h&b presswe aqueous systems. The influence-of various methods of &&ration of the oxid~electrode on the -_ open circuit potenti (V,) and llatbnd potential ( V,) were investigated. Electrodes with low impedance had a V, that exhibited a Nerustian response to pH (-5$mV/pH) at 23°C. and oxide eiecwodes with high impedance l&i a V+ that was insensitive to pH. Because of the frequency dispersion in the MottSchottky plots and the exhaustIon of the oxide, V, could not be determined for the ZrO, films. The electrochemical results indicate that the Zr-ZrOz electrodes as used in this study do not offer much prospect for monitoring the pH of aqueous solutions.

The electrochemical oxidation of the alkali‐metal ions Cs^⊕^, Rb^⊕^, K^⊕^, and Na^⊕^ appears to occur in liquid sulfur dioxide, but only at about + 4.7 V vs. SCE, as shown by studies on their AsF and PF salts for which other sources of the observed oxidation waves could be excluded. No evidence for
