✦ Synopsis
The electrochemical oxidation of the alkali‐metal ions Cs^⊕^, Rb^⊕^, K^⊕^, and Na^⊕^ appears to occur in liquid sulfur dioxide, but only at about + 4.7 V vs. SCE, as shown by studies on their AsF and PF salts for which other sources of the observed oxidation waves could be excluded. No evidence for the oxidation, previously reported by Seppelt et al., of Cs^⊕^ in acetonitrile at less positive potentials could be found. It is astounding that all four alkali‐metal ions studied are oxidized at the same potential.
