A New Total Synthesis of Fenchone

A new and a simple method for a threeโ€step total synthesis of the title substance 7 is described. Dielsโ€Alder reaction of methylcyclopentadiene with 2โ€chloroacrylonitrile catalyzed by Cu(BF~4~)~2~ yields mainly 1โ€methylโ€5โ€norbornenโ€2โ€one (1), which after hydrogenation to 1โ€methylโ€2โ€norbornanone (5) is methylated to fenchone (7).

Die Mikroanalysen wurdcn unter der Leitung von Herrn E. THOMMEN im Mikrolabor des Instituts ausgefiihrt. Zusammenfassung Die Umsetzung von 3-0-Tosyl-uzarigenin mit K-Acetat in Dimethylformamid lieferte nach anschliessender saurer Verseifung neben Anhydroderivaten als Hauptprodukt ein Kristallisat, d
