Abstract
In this report we examined the effects of a discontinuous radio frequency (RF) signal produced by a GSM multiband mobile phone (900/1,900 MHz; SARββΌβ1.4 W/kg) on Drosophila melanogaster, during the 10βday developmental period from egg laying through pupation. As found earlier with low frequency exposures, the nonβthermal radiation from the GSM mobile phone increased numbers of offspring, elevated hsp70 levels, increased serum response element (SRE) DNAβbinding and induced the phosphorylation of the nuclear transcription factor, ELKβ1. The rapid induction of hsp70 within minutes, by a nonβthermal stress, together with identified components of signal transduction pathways, provide sensitive and reliable biomarkers that could serve as the basis for realistic mobile phone safety guidelines. ## Abstract Mobile phone exposureβrelated effects on the human electroencephalogram (EEG) have been shown during both waking and sleep states, albeit with slight differences in the frequency affected. This discrepancy, combined with studies that failed to find effects, has led many to conclude that
Anticipated use of extremely large magnets in future, controlled thermonuclear reactors and occasional exposures in various occupational and research environments both require that biological effects of these fields be investigated. According to some estimates, the magnetic field intensities inside
