โœฆ Synopsis

The effects of casting temperature on microstructure and mechanical properties of as-cast 3 mm-diameter Zr 64.9 Al 7.9 Ni 10.7 Cu 16.5 and Zr 47 Cu 37.5 Ag 7.5 Al 8 alloys were investigated. It was found that crystalline phases were precipitated in amorphous matrix as casting temperature increased. The compressive strength and Hv of as-cast Zr 64.9 Al 7.9 Ni 10.7 Cu 16.5 and Zr 47 Cu 37.5 Ag 7.5 Al 8 alloys increased slightly when casting temperature increased. However, ultrahigh casting temperature resulted in formation of hard crystalline phase in metallic glass matrix, which caused increase of hardness and density, but decrease of compressive strength.

This paper presents studies on mechanical properties of a Zr-based metallic glass by using spherical indentation and nano-indentation techniques. The spherical indentation investigates mechanical properties of the Zr-based metallic glass as a function of indentation strain. The results show that the
