โœฆ Synopsis

Changes in the degree of supercooling and in the accompanying changes in the structure of the melt layer adjoining the growing silicon crystal was shown to result in changes in the properties of the crystal. Crystals of high quality were grown from the melt with a disordered structure. The formation of such a structure can be realized by introducing a special modifying impurity which initiates some phase transformations that lead to melt disordering.

Low molecular weight, low viscosity poly(pheny1ene sulfide) (PPS) has been cured in the melt state to examine effects of curing time and temperature on the melt-state dynamic viscoelastic behavior. It was found that the Newtonian behavior of the uncured material could largely be retained if melt cur
