โœฆ Synopsis

By using a nun-toxic reticu/oendothelial system stimulant, lipid-Restim, derived from shark livers, we were able to demonstrate the following efiects on growing Rous sarcoma tumors in young chicks. Prechallenge Restim treatment: Significant reduction of the percentage of chicks with tumors and prolongation of the latent period resulted from combined administration of Restim and speciftc antiserum.

Postchallenge Restim treatment: The mortality data indicated that there was a significant increase in survival time and survival rate. Complete regressions occurred in a significant number of the Restim-treated chicks compared to the controls. Possible explanaiions of these findings arc discussed.

' The tern1 " regression " is used in this paper to mean complete macroscopical disappearance of the primary tumor at the site of inoculation of the virus.

Exposure of hamsters to microwave (MW) energy (2.45 GHz, 25 mW/cm2, 1 h) resulted in activation of peritoneal macrophages (PM) to a viricidal state restricting the replication of vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV). The PM from MW-exposed hamsters were viricidal as early as 1 day after exposure and rem
