β¦ Synopsis
Yb 1Γx RE x )Ba 2 Cu 3 O y ((Yb,RE)123) superconductors (x ΒΌ 0:1-0:3) with RE ΒΌ La, Pr, Sm and Gd were prepared by a standard solid-phase reaction varying sintering temperatures in order to investigate the effect of the RE substitution on the formation and the critical temperature of (Yb,RE)123. The decrease in impurity phases of (Yb,RE) 2 BaCuO y and BaCuO 2 was observed for all the (Yb,RE)123 samples. Single-phase (Yb,RE)123 was synthesized for the samples with x over 0.1 for Pr, 0.2 for Sm and 0.25 for Gd. The highest T c (zero) of the single-phase (Yb,RE)123 samples was 88.5 K for Pr, 91.5 K for Sm and 92.0 K for Gd. The RE substitution increased the decomposition temperature of Yb123 by 20-30 K.
