Jc–B characteristics of RE–Ba–Cu–O (RE = Sm, Er and [Gd, Er]) films on PLD-CeO2/IBAD-GZO/metal substrates

✦ Synopsis


We have fabricated SmBa 2 Cu 3 O 7Àd films and (Gd 0.8 Er 0.2 )Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7Àd films on PLD-CeO 2 /IBAD-GZO/metal substrates and investigated the effect of thickness of the superconductor layer on J c under magnetic field (J c -B). For thin films up to about 0.5 lm, the (Gd 0.8 Er 0.2 )Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7Àd films showed higher J c than that of the SmBa 2 Cu 3 O 7Àd under the magnetic field parallel to c-axis, and much higher J c than that of the SmBa 2 Cu 3 O 7Àd under the magnetic field perpendicular to the c-axis. However, for thick films of 0.83 lm, the J c -B characteristics were not so good in (Gd 0.8 Er 0.2 )Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7Àd films due to the existence of a-axis oriented domains, while the SmBa 2 Cu 3 O 7Àd films, in which few a-axis oriented domains were observed, showed the J c -B characteristics similar to the thinner films.
