✦ Synopsis

The in-plane magnetic ΓΏeld (B || ) dependence of cyclotron resonance is investigated in both single and double layer two-dimensional electron systems by Fourier spectrometry in tilted magnetic ΓΏelds. The observed B || dependence of the cyclotron mass (mC) is complicated and varies with perpendicular magnetic ΓΏeld in the double layer system. The splitting of mC by B || around ΓΏlling factor 2 is observed in the single layer system.

First cyclotron resonance of electrons in AlAs is presented. The measurements were carried out up to 40T on a high mobility (Jo = 10 500 cm\*/V s at 4.2 K) two-dimensional electron gas obtained in a type II heterojunction. The transverse and longitudinal effective masses at the X point of the Brillo
