The present paper reports the effect of replacement of selenium by antimony on the optical constants of new quaternary chalcogenide As 14 Ge 14 Se 72Àx Sb x (where x = 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 at.%) thin films. Films of As 14 Ge 14 Se 72Àx Sb x glasses were prepared by thermal evaporation of the bulk samp

✦ Synopsis
Measurements of optical properties have been made on alloyed samples of Se and Ge with In prepared under vacuum by quenching the melt into water. The optical transmission spectra of film Se 90 Ge 10Àx In x (x ¼ 2, 4 and 6) were measured in the wavelength range 400-2000 nm by spectrophotometer. It is observed from optical transmission measurements that optical energy gap (E g ) decreases with In content. It is also found that refractive index (n), real dielectric constant (e 0 ) decreases with wavelength (l) while extinction coefficient (k), imaginary dielectric constant ( 00 ) increases with wavelength (l). The absorption coefficient (a) increases with photon energy (hn).

Thin films of chemical composition Ge 20 Se 80 and Ag 6 (Ge 0.20 Se 0.80 ) 94 are prepared by thermal evaporation technique. The optical properties of these thin films are determined by a method, based only on the transmission spectra at normal incidence, measured over the 400-2000 nm spectral range
The optical properties of as-deposited Ge x Se 92Àx In 8 (x ¼ 10, 12.5, 15 and 20 at%) have been studied. Various optical constants have been calculated for the studied compositions. The mechanism of the optical absorption follows the rule of non-direct transition. It was found that, the optical ene
