Abstract

The dielectric permittivity Ο΅ of BaTiO~3~ single crystals versus the temperature T at different hydrostatic pressure Οƒ, and Ο΅(Οƒ) at different T, was measured. The highest Οƒ achieved was 12 800 kg/cm^2^, between 22 Β°C and 180 Β°C. At Οƒ < 3500 kg/cm^2^, the Curie point T~c~ decreases at a rate of βˆ’4.3 Γ— 10^βˆ’3^ Β°C cm^2^/kg which ceases to be constant for Οƒ > 3500 kg/cm^2^. The Curie‐Weiss temperature falls with growing Οƒ. At higher Οƒ, the Curie constant rises with growing Οƒ. The Ο΅(Οƒ) graphs at constant T below 120 Β°C exhibit maxima related to an induced phase transition. Above 120 Β°C, Ο΅ decreases with growing Οƒ. β€žMemory of pressure”︁ is observed on removal of high hydrostatic pressure.
