The chlorination of carbon cloth, both as-received and air activated, at 400ยฐC produces carbons exhibiting increased water adsorption. At least two types of fixed chlorine are formed. Chemisorbed chlorine (ca. 7% by weight) is formed at 400ยฐC and is not removed by sweeping with argon at 400ยฐC. In ad
