Abstract
We study the change in the structural morphology and optical properties of aqueous solution grown ZnO microrods on glass substrates with the change in the concentration of hexamethylene tetramine (HMT). The field emission scanning electron microscope images of the microrods grown for equimolar (1:1) ratio of Zn^2+^ salt and HMT exhibit the highest aspect ratio, 8.3, which decreases gradually, while the relative intensity of the (100) peak in the Xβray diffractogram increases with increase in the HMT concentration. The change in the morphology from a perfect hexagonal to an ovalβshaped needle is experimentally supported by the highβresolution transmission electron microscope results. A sharp and strong ultraviolet photoluminescence peak ensures good structural quality of the microrods for the molar ratios 1:1 and 1:3 above which the quality degrades.
