## Abstract The retention times of 24 alkanes, 11 olefins, 17 alkyl alcohols, 30 fatty acid methyl esters, and 8 polyaromatic hydrocarbons were measured on two non‐polar and two polar capillary columns at different temperatures. The enthalpy of these compounds was calculated from the Van't Hoff plo

## Abstract With recent advances in column technology it is now possible to prepare highly efficient, very inert, and thermally stable capillary columns coated with nonpolar polysiloxane stationary phases. Unfortunately, the same degree of success has not been achieved for some of the more polar po

## Abstract The contribution of __extra__‐column effects to the height equivalent to a theoretical plate (HETP) in capillary gas chromatography is calculated. Four extra terms are added to the Golay‐Giddings equation and evaluated in order to verify their significance. The paradox of negative __A__
