✦ Synopsis


Addition of small amounts of RIJ~(CO),~ to a mixture of a cellulose substrate, sodium carbonate, carbon monoxide and water significantly enhances the extent of conversion and the H:C ratio in the oil produced in the indirect hydrogenation process at 250-350Β°C; however, the oxygen content of the oil is slightly higher. The possible function of the added Ru,_(CO),~, a known catalyst for the water-gas shift reaction, is discussed.
