β¦ Synopsis
Abstract
Baseline plasma glucose and lactate levels were determined in unstressed rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) acclimated to 8Β°, 12Β°, and 16Β°C. The 8Β°C acclimated fish had the highest plasma glucose level (75.7 mg/dl), which is significantly greater than the 16Β°C acclimated fish (59.7 mg/dl) but not the 12Β°C fish (66.7 mg/dl). The plasma glucose levels of the 12Β°C and 16Β°C acclimated fish were not statistically different. The plasma lactate levels of 8Β°C fish (5.3 gm/dl), 12Β°C fish (4.2 mg/dl) and 16Β°C fish (5.3 mg/dl) were not significantly different. There was significant positive correlation between weight and length and significant negative correlation between plasma glucose and both weight and length. No other significant correlations between parameters were detected.

## Abstract The effects of amiloride and SITS on branchial ion fluxes in rainbow trout were examined. Each drug was found significantly to inhibit both influx of Na^+^ and Cl^β^ ions. It is postulated that the inhibitory effects on the contralateral exchange processes result from changes in gill ep
The effects of adrenaline on branchial anion transport and nitrite-induced methaemoglobinaemia have been investigated in rainbow trout. Nitrite uptake and efflux results suggest that adrenaline effects a net anion efflux principally by stimulation of the unidirectional branchial anion efflux. In oxy

## Abstract Melatonin was injected into intact and eyestalkβablated fiddler crabs (__Uca pugilator__), and its effects on hemolymph glucose and lactate levels were studied. In intact crabs, glucose and lactate levels cycled simultaneously, with peaks occurring during early and late photophase. Mela
