β¦ Synopsis
It is a great pleasure for us as the current editors of Biometrical Journal, to congratulate Professor JΓ§rgen LΓ₯uter on the occasion of his seventieth birthday. His name is strongly associated with the history of our journal in two different aspects: First, some of his outstanding contributions to the field of modern multivariate statistics have been published here. A concise but comprehensive review of his work is presented by Siegfried Kropf and Ekkehard Glimm (Kopf and Glimm, 2005) in this issue.
Second, for a long time until today he is an active member of the Editorial Board of the journal, having also been the chief editor from 1996 to 1999, a period when Biometrical Journal was passing through a very difficult phase. As the chief editor, he laid the foundations for a continuous and steady development towards an internationally recognized, methodologically oriented journal open for both theoretical developments and applications in all areas of biometry (Bauer, 2000). Thanks to his personal reputation and engagement, the reorganization of Biometrical Journal in those times turned out to be a successful endeavour. Today, we have the privilege to build further on that basis towards continuously improving the quality and recognition of Biometrical Journal. We thus like to thank him very much for all his personal efforts that he spent on the journal. We wish him all the best for many more active years and hope that he will contribute further to the journal's quality and reputation.
