As the current editors of Biometrical Journal, it is our great pleasure to congratulate Professor Peter Bauer on the occasion of his 65 th birthday. His name is associated very strongly with Biometrical Journal in two different aspects. Firstly, many of his outstanding contributions to various fields of modern biostatistics have been published here, to date more than 20 original papers. A concise but comprehensive review of his work is presented by Werner Brannath, Franz Kaenig and Martin Posch (Brannath et al., 2007) in this issue.
Secondly, Peter Bauer has been an active member of the Editorial Board of Biometrical Journal for a number of years, serving as Editor-in-Chief from 2000 to 2003. During this time, he served with all his energy, competence, and scientific reputation for the continuous and steady development of Biometrical Journal towards an internationally recognized, methodologically oriented publication open to theoretical developments and applications in all areas of biometry (Raehmel and Maurer, 2004). Today, we have the privilege to further build on that basis towards the continuing improvement of both quality and recognition of Biometrical Journal. We would thus like to thank Peter Bauer wholeheartedly for all the personal effort he has invested in the journal. We wish him all the best for many more years of activity to come, hoping that he will further contribute to both the quality and reputation of Biometrical Journal.
