โฆ Synopsis
When Ebola virus was first isolated in our laboratory [Pattyn et al, 19771 we had observed that baby mice died after intracerebral inoculation of virus contair, ing human serum. At that time brains were harvested and forwarded to the Microbiological Research Establishment, Porton UK, where a suspension was inoculated into guinea pigs, but no evidence of Ebola virus infection ensued (Bowen, personal communication). The results of inoculation of weanling mice were not clear [Pattyn et al, 19771 . After the construction of a maximumsafety laboratory in our institute it became possible to reexamine this point.
