✦ Synopsis

The duration of the induction period in the hydration of C3S can be altered by several means. Fast cooling after burning, fine grinding and an excess of water shorten the induction period. The induction period gets prolonged by slow cooling of the sample, by long lasting storage and by doping with AI203 • Die Dauer der Ruheperiode im Verlaufe. der Hydratation. des C3S kann auf verschiedene Weisen beelnfluBt werden. Eln schnelles K~hlen und ein Wasser~berschuB verk~rzen die Ruheperiode. Durch langsame K~hlung, lange Lagerung und durch Dotierung mit AI203 wird die Dauer der Ruheperiode verl~ngert.

Hydration of C3S in salt solutions having ions in common with its hydration products was investigated by calorimetry and aqueous phase analyses. Soluble calcium salts, which depress hydroxyl ion concentrations in solution by promoting Ca(OH) 2 precipitation, were observed to accelerate hydration. Ac
