✦ Synopsis

In benzene solution, C60 and C7o interact weakly in the ground state with amines having favourable oxidation potentials. Picosecond time-resolved absorption measurements show that on photoexcilation, the weak complexes undergo charge separation to produce ion pairs which in turn undergo fast geminate recombination either to produce the triplet state of the fullerenes or give back the ground slate of the complex, depending on the oxidation potential of the amine. Free-ion yield is generally negligible.

It is shown by near-IR that the anion radicals C70 and C2o are formed in vacuum by interaction between the fullerenes C70 and 1-amino-3-propanol (AP) and 1,5-diaminopentane (DAP). The temperature dependence of the ESR spectra for the systems C60-AP, CTo-AP and C7o-DAP were studied. At low temperatur

While CW interacts with aromatic amines such as dimethylaniline in the ground state, C,,, does not. Fluorescence spectroscopic studies, including lifetime measurements, show the formation of exciplexes of both Ca and Cm with arpmatic amines in nonaromatic solvents such as methylcyclohexane. Exciplex
