โœฆ Synopsis

A possible method for the analysis of the dynamic response of columns due to impulsive axial loads is presented. The column is analyzed by replacing the original distributed mass system by a mathematical model composed of a number of point masses. The axial force is replaced by an equivalent set of lateral concentrated forces at the mass points. The equations of motion of the system are solved simultaneously by use of a numerical integration procedure from which the deflections at finite time steps are obtained.

A preliminary investigation of the response of initially straight elastic columns of constant EI, with pinned ends and equal end eccentricities is discussed.

A two-phase model that incorporates axial dispersion in both phases, as well as interphase mass transfer, is used to simulate the transient response of bubble columns. The time-domain solution is obtained by inverting the Laplace domain solution via a Fourier series approximation technique. Using th
