The Zeeman effect in the phosphorescence photoexcitation spectrum of benzene is used to investigate the assignment of the intense vibronic doublet occuqing in the 'Blue ' Alg absorption spectrum. The results p:ovide further eiidence for a dynamic pseudo-Jahn-Tcllcr vibronic coupling between the 3BlU
